If you’ve been to Baja, you know that this is truly one of a kind place with stunning nature. We look forward to seasonal visitors like Gray Whales who travel from the polar north to the warm waters of the Pacific every year during winter. We welcome nomad birds that visit the peninsula to rest from long journeys, whale sharks and of course, Sea Turtles. These legendary reptiles visit Baja’s coasts regularly to nest and lay their eggs on several beaches of the region. If you are in Baja between August and November, you might participate at the baby turtle release as well. We participated in one of such releases in Todos Santos, and here is some more from our experience.
There are seven species of sea turtles, and six of these arrive to lay eggs each year on beaches across Mexico. The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle and the Leatherback Sea Turtle are the only two species that lay their eggs on Baja’s coasts where every turtle’s nest may contain up to 200 eggs!
The most amazing thing is that after traveling around the world the female turtles return to the precise location where they were born to lay their eggs. This journey is a very important part of their life, and that’s the reason for special associations in Los Cabos who work to save and preserve the beaches and turtle’s nests from predators to ensure the reproduction of these beautiful reptiles.
One of the most important association in Los Cabos is ASUPMATOMA A.C., a non-profit association located on Rancho Punta San Cristobal, located between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos highway, where they protect 4.5 km of the beach from July to December to investigate and protect sea turtles. Over the past 17 years, ASUPMATOMA has achieved to collect and rescue 7,000 sea turtles nests and release more than 560,000 baby turtles, promoting the ambient culture of preserving these magnificent reptiles.
The baby turtle release experience
ASUPMATOMA team constantly invite locals and tourist to experience this one of a kind experience, where you can help baby turtles reach the beach and begin their life journey by the sea. In the beginning, the team will give you the welcome to Rancho Punta San Cristobal with a brief explanation, the most important info and what you have to know about sea turtles and their nests and how they work to help preserve turtle eggs.
If you would like to participate, you can help! They will teach you how to help baby turtles to leave the nest. With a brief class and special care, you can dig into the nest and help baby turtles to reach the surface. After finishing this activity, you will help them to reach the beach and wait for the waves to make the rest of the job and to take them to their new home, the sea.
Most of this happens in the afternoon, and the turtle release has to be at sunset, because the heat and sunlight can dehydrate them and cause injuries on the baby turtles.
What you have to know:
– In Mexico, it’s a federal crime if you manipulate sea turtles and turtle eggs, if you see one, you can pass the information to authorities or associations in charge.
– It’s an important thing if you find a nest or a baby turtle by the beach, alert people who work on this projects and help supervise that it reaches the waves.
– Don’t touch or grab baby turtles with your hands, you can affect them, and they can pass their bacteria to you.
– If you help on a Turtle Release activity, you can take pictures but don’t use the flash on your camera or phone, because the light can hurt them or distract them.
– It’s important that baby turtles reach the sea by themselves, this way they will start their journey of life.
Baby turtle release to the ocean is such a beautiful experience that must be on every traveler’s bucket list! If you want to live it during you vacation days in Cabo San Lucas, we can help you and organize a visit to Rancho Punta San Cristobal and help ASUPMATOMA in this great cause preserving turtle nests in Baja California Sur, they will appreciate your help, and you will take home the unforgettable memories.
Since 1997, every year the month of October turns into Pink October, in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This cause started as a single 5K Race for Awareness and year by years has grown and finally convert as a global trend, where everyone supports this important cause as well as the Pink October annual campaign.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of women each year, according to the World Health Organization. One of eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, making this the second cause of death among women around the world. Here in Los Cabos local hospitals support this global campaign, inviting and creating awareness of breast cancer detection, inviting women to make the necessary tests and making special promotions encouraging women to early detection.
Thanks to the strong and committed local community in Los Cabos, there are a lot of local associations and foundations that help people in need. On this Pink October month we would like to focus on those special associations that help and support women in the most needed communities of Los Cabos:
Sarahuaro was founded in 2005 by two friends from Los Cabos who had a vision of bringing better education to women impacted by poverty. It began with simple classes in life skills and handcrafted work. Later they obtained the Mexican nonprofit status of Civil Association (A.C.), and thanks to this, the association was able to increase its reach to more local communities.
Mission: The mission of Fundación Sarahuaro is to support temporarily women through educational activities, to develop skills that enable them to improve themselves, their families, and their community. Today Sarahuaro offers a variety of educational programs for women in San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. They have added “La Cocina” (The Kitchen) a special program that helps with the health and food security of Sarahuaro women and their children since 2012.
This is a Mexican Civil Association (A.C.) that brings medical care and rehabilitation for women, focusing on breast and cervical cancer for all women with socioeconomic status without access to specialized medical attention.
Los Cabos Wellness Foundation team
Mission: Bring programs of information, education, and prevention about health care and humanitarian assistance to women and families of all ages in the community of Los Cabos.
Por Ti Mujer A.C. is a shelter for women and children who have decided not to live anymore in a domestic violence, finding a place of comprehensive rehabilitation achieving their emotional and financial independence, focusing on gender equality and women rights.
We are committed to improve the overall situation of women in Los Cabos, based on gender equality, free from violence and human rights association.
To help or make a special donation you can contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org
For us at Luxury Villa Collection this is an important issue in Los Cabos local community, and we recognize the great effort that these associations bring to people in need. If you love Los Cabos and if you’d like to help, please take a moment to see the work of the communities above and support their work. Any donation makes a difference. Thank you all.

This method works up to 100-feet line-of-sight range, excellent to supervising kids by the pool and the beach.

Wondering what else can you discover during your vacation in Los Cabos? We recommend a day trip to La Paz, a beautiful coastal Baja town. La Paz is famous for the turquoise color and tranquility of the water that surrounds it. The admiring crystal clear waters make it a natural beauty worth of discovering, a perfect place to fully relax and enjoy all kind of water activities.
La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur, located just 2 hours from Cabo San Lucas. It’s a complete travel experience full of adventure and culture for travelers who seek peace and tranquility on their vacation and would like to explore another side of Mexican culture. La Paz is positioned in a bay of the Sea of Cortez, full of amazing landscapes, beautiful beaches, and colorful sunsets.
Jacques Cousteau named the Sea of Cortez the “World’s Aquarium“, thanks to the wide range of marine animal species that live in it. It is considered one of the five largest marine ecosystems of highest productivity and biological diversity in the world.
A scenic drive from Cabo San Lucas to the North, taking the main road from the tip of the Baja driving along the Pacific Ocean, this is an extraordinary road trip that we always enjoy. You will be amazed by the powerful contrast between the sea, the desert and lush oases, just some of the extraordinary things in Baja that never cease to amaze us.
What you can’t miss in La Paz:
Visit one of the beautiful beaches of La Paz, recognized by its calm and bright colors. The most popular are Balandra Bay (my favorite), El Caimancito, El Tesoro, Pichilingue, and Tecolote. Balandra is a stunning and peaceful bay with fine white sand, famous for the turquoise waters and the “Mushroom stone”. Thanks to its calm sea, this place is perfect to practice stand-up paddle and kayak.
A walk on the popular boardwalk “Malecon”. The 5 km long El Malecon is a favorite place for locals and visitors alike, great for long sunset walks by the sea, bicycling, roller-blading and other recreational activities. A boardwalk is full of local restaurants, bars, shops, parks and beautiful art sculptures; you can enjoy a delicious ice cream, or a “raspado” a typical Mexican treat.
Local restaurants. You have to try some of the local food and live the experience of flavors. La Paz is a place full of traditional Mexican food places and famous for their seafood dishes, like fish tacos, sashimi, clams and more. Some of our favorite restaurants are: Nim, Azul Marino, Buffalo BBQ, El Rancho Viejo, Tres Virgenes, El Bismarkcito and some others.
Visit a cultural and/or historic place. For travelers seeking to learn more about the town, we recommend a visit to the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Paz (Our Lady of La Paz Cathedral), an important part of Mexico’s history. It was founded in 1720 as La Paz de Airapi Mission marking the work of evangelization developed during the era of New Spain.
Enjoy the sunset. La Paz is known as “The City of 365 sunsets”, so don’t forget to take a moment to enjoy at least one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. The boardwalk makes it a perfect spot to admire this natural spectacle full of natural lights and colors.
After a lovely beach day and a perfect evening delighting in local cuisine, it’s time to go back to Cabo, where your private villa is waiting for you.
What to do with your pet when you go on vacations? Bring it with you of course! If you own or have ever owned a pet, you know that they are part of your family, and it’s very hard to leave them behind. The key for traveling with your pet is finding the right destination for you and your little friend, a place where you will be in total comfort, enjoying the place, the attractions and activities as much as possible.
We’re happy that Los Cabos, famous for its spectacular beaches, the cuisine, and its golf courses, is also a good and very caring pet friendly vacation destination. And for us at Luxury Villa Collections it is very important to make your vacation enjoyable for the entire family, including your beloved pets.
Our Casa Oceano is a comfortable and elegant pet friendly home, located in the beautiful community of Palmilla in San Jose del Cabo. At this luxury private villa you can enjoy spectacular views of the 5th fairway of Jack Nicklaus’s Palmilla Ocean Golf Course, and a large private terrace with entertaining area, a BBQ, a palapa covered dining area, lounge seating and of course a beautiful pool, with a low ‘pet friendly area’, and a deep one for you! It is a perfect Cabo vacation villa for you and your loved ones.
Beside the villa itself, Los Cabos has a bunch of pet friendly attractions for both of you. If you plan on traveling with your dog, you can take him/her with you almost anywhere! For example popular restaurant Mango Deck, located at El Medano Beach is a good place to hang out and a good place for your puppy; they have a “mascota” seating area in the sand with umbrellas to keep them out of the hot sun. Among other pet friendly places in Cabo San Lucas, we also recommend two places (that we regularly visit with our dogs) at the Cabo San Lucas marina: Captain Tony’s restaurant and Tiki Bar, where dogs are welcome. After a nice walk around the Cabo Marina, there’s nothing better then refreshing at any of the pet friendly restaurants with your pup and enjoying a cold margarita or beer, while he gets his bucket of cold water and a treat. San Jose del Cabo has a lovely pet friendly marina as well, and it’s very easy to explore the historic downtown with your pup. If a picnic is on your mind, we totally recommend you to have a lovely morning at the Organic Market of San Jose del Cabo.
The extraordinary beaches of Los Cabos and Baja are a good option too, most of the beaches welcome dogs, except two Blue Flag certified beaches at Chileno Bay and Santa Maria. Beaches are a good place to enjoy the sun, play in the sand or take a little walk. Just don’t forget to bring some extra shade and water for your puppy.

Make sure to not forget the collar with a name and emergency contact info.
Get a Veterinarian checkup before traveling.
Pack toys, special items and blankets from home, so they don’t miss home too much.
